Founded in 1876, the Sinfonieorchester Basel will celebrate its 150th anniversary in the 2025/26 season. As one of Switzerland's most traditional and renowned orchestras, it thrills audiences in the historic and acoustically outstanding music hall of the Stadtcasino Basel and as the resident orchestra of Theater Basel. With over 100 musicians from 25 nations, it is one of Switzerland's most important cultural institutions. Since the current season, the internationally acclaimed conductor Markus Poschner has been the principal conductor of the Sinfonieorchester Basel. Among other things, Poschner has planned a cycle of all Gustav Mahler's symphonies for the coming years.
