Hans Huber (1852−1921):
Weissagung und Erfüllung, Oratorium (1913)
Hans Huber’s oratorio Weissagung und Erfüllung ('Prophecy and Fulfilment') is a work whose genesis and performance history is closely linked to the city of Basel. 108 years ago, in December 1913, the first performance of the work took place in Basel with the participation of the Sinfonieorchester Basel and the Basler Gesangverein. The oratorio is dedicated to Elisabeth and Paul Speiser-Sarasin, who were deeply connected to Hans Huber as friends and patrons. Elisabeth was one of Huber’s piano students, and salon music evenings held at the Speiser-Sarasin home often featured premieres of the composer’s works with four-handed piano arrangements. The Hans Huber Hall of the Stadtcasino was named in honour of the Swiss composer, who lived in Basel for forty years.
